Under Marié combines alternative guitar pop with electronic beats and ambient synth sounds into a different indie pop of their own. The outcome is a unique sound in the Estonian pop music scene that has already caught international attention.

Under Marié was founded at the beginning of 2004 in Tallinn. Since then the band has performed at small but established events like the Culture Factory Festival in Tallinn (Estonia), on larger stages like Sapnu Fabrika in Riga (Latvia), at festivals like Plink Plonk in Tartu (Estonia), Õllesummer in Tallinn (Estonia), and Jyrock in Jyväskylä (Finland), and given live performances on national Radio 2 and TV3, to mention a few. Playing at different venues has helped Under Marié gather supporters (but also hatred) amongst the fans of both pop and alternative music.

The first recordings of the band were released in the summer of 2005. The DP "This Room So Small" containing 9 songs was recorder at a studio in Pärnu in 24 hours. The initial demo release was followed by a demo single "Any Place Close" in the spring of 2006.

A year later, in april 2007, Under Marié finally released their studio debut album. "Step Into Light", which the band itself considers a summary of the work of three previous years, was released by the acclaimed Tartu record company Forwards. The album was followed by a special deluxe version containing remixes of the album songs by various Estonian artists (Chalice, Stem, Chopper, Tarmo Vannas, Pia Fraus, etc).

The debut album "Step Into Light" has received remarkable media attention. The first single "What What" is listed in various national and local radio stations and entered the popular Radio 2 music chart R2 Top 20. The video to the single was released in May 2007 and was soon included into the MTV Baltic playlist and the MTV Baltic Top 20 chart show.

The second official single "That Dance" was released at the end of 2007. The animated video drawn and directed by artist Chintis Lundgren also received similar treatment by MTV Baltic and in addition attracted the attention of MTV Europe. In 2008, the video for "That Dance" went on to win the Estonian Music Awards for the best Estonian video of 2007.

In 2005, Under Marié took part in the Baltic New Music Charts. Two years later the band was nominated for the MTV European Music Awards in New Sound of Europe category.

Under Marié is currently writing and recording new album material. A preview of the new album in the form of an EP is planned to be released in the autumn of 2008 to give listeners an idea of the new sounds and developments in the band. The new material is bound to be more electronic and sophisticated.
